# K1631–K1635: inode slot generation ownership An inode slot has one current owner and a nonzero generation. Allocation requires a free slot and nonzero owner. Releasing the live handle retires its owner and advances generation before the slot can be reused. A stale handle cannot read or release the new owner's inode. Generation overflow refuses release without changing the live slot. The positive fixture releases slot 5 at generation 7 and reuses it at generation 8. The negative fixture tries the old handle after reuse and requires an explicit stale error with the new owner unchanged. These are synthetic slot records; durable inode-table updates and six guest profiles require separate K1635 evidence.
